If you join as an affiliate of theirs, then you earn a commission of every sale that comes through you.

You do that by advertising the product for them, commonly through your own websites, blogs, and writing articles for online directories and article sites. You'll get an affiliate link, so that when people who visit your site or article click on it to buy the product, the company realizes that the sale came from you, and you earn the commission. It's a win win situation. The companies get a wider market for their goods and advertising they only would pay for when it makes a sale, and you get to make money without needing to have a product or service of your own to sell. And there's no upfront investment required on your part, other than maybe getting some domain names.

Now like any legitimate business opportunity, affiliate marketing is not for those who are trying to get rich overnight. In fact, there is no legitimate way to get rich overnight! People begin affiliate marketing as a way to make supplemental income - and many of them are able to start doing it full-time, when they understand the things.

So what's with all these work at home things? Well, many of them are not worth considering. It takes a little work to dig through the hype and find legitimate ways to make money from home. Affiliate marketing is just one method - but there are others out there too. You just have to do your research, and not get suckered in by empty claims of quick, easy cash.
